SINGAPORE — Staring grimly at her empty voting slip, local voter Clara Lim, 35, confirmed Saturday that she is currently torn between drawing a turtle or an ambitious rendition of Edvard Munch’s The Scream, after deciding she simply cannot, in good conscience, vote for either candidate contesting in her constituency.
“I really wanted to exercise my civic duty,” Clara said, sighing as she tapped her pen against the booth wall. “But both of them give me the same feeling as drinking expired Yakult — regret, nausea, existential ennui.”
Sources say Clara spent the past week weighing manifestos, public debates, and each candidate’s tragic attempts at relatability and virality on TikTok, only to conclude that humanity, as a whole, may not yet deserve functioning democracy.
“I feel too goodly to willingly pick between two evils,” Clara explained. “At least a turtle represents wisdom and patience. The Scream captures the vibe perfectly, but I’m worried about the technical difficulty. I failed art as a Sec 2 student.”
At press time, Clara was seen sketching a rough outline of a crying tortoise, whispering, “This is my truest vote.”
Election officials later confirmed they are expecting a historic spike in “abstract emotional art” on rejected ballots this year.
