SINGAPORE— In a groundbreaking display of academic enthusiasm and school spirit, a group of Bukit Timah students has attempted to apply their newly acquired physics knowledge to the art of sandwich-making, demanding that Subway staff alternate rough and smooth ingredients in their sandwiches to prevent fillings from slipping out during a bite.

The students, who recently completed a unit on friction in their top tier school’s physics program, arrived at the Subway outlet during lunch hour with a bold proposal. “We’ve been studying the laws of physics, and it’s clear that sandwich fillings are not arranged in accordance to basic principles of friction,” explained 17-year-old Ramesh Tan, the leader of the study group. “By alternating rough and smooth ingredients—like lettuce with tomato, or cheese with meat—we can enhance the frictional force that keeps everything securely in place.”

The Subway staff, initially perplexed, attempted to accommodate the request, although the results were less than ideal. “At first, I thought they were joking,” said manager Lee Hui Ling. “But they were serious. We tried alternating layers of cucumbers and peppers, but it ended up more of a mess than anything.”

Despite the challenges, the students remained steadfast in their belief that this new method was a scientific breakthrough. Said 16-year-old Sarah Lim, one of Ramesh’s classmates, “With the right balance of friction, we could prevent any unwanted sandwich collapse.”

She added that they intend to post video records of these requests on TikTok to bring glory to their school and uphold their school’s reputation.

The students are now planning to write a research paper on the topic and present their findings at the next school science fair, where they hope to convince both their peers and the local Subway chains that this sandwich innovation will revolutionize fast food forever.

“I believe we’re on the edge of something big,” Ramesh said, taking a bite of his perfectly layered sandwich. “Next, we’re raising awareness about cell organization levels. Before digging into a plate of stir-fried vegetable leaves, we will exclaim ‘what a delicious plate of organs’.”
