AUSTIN, TX— In a bold and unconventional attempt to eradicate the growing measles outbreak sweeping through Texas, local entrepreneur and self-proclaimed health expert, Doug “Trigger” Malone, has devised a controversial solution: eradicate the disease through gunfire.

Speaking at a press conference outside a local gun range, Malone laid out his ambitious plan, which he insists is “the most Texas solution possible.”

“Measles? It’s a viral infection, right?” Malone said, pacing with a rifle in hand. “Well, I’m no scientist, but if you shoot at it hard enough, it’ll go away. I’m talking aimed fire, like at the root cause—those pesky viruses. It’s basically the same as when you shoot a rattlesnake to keep it out of your barn, except this time the target is contagious germs.”

Malone’s plan, which involves members of the community taking turns “firing off shots at potential hotspots” where the measles virus is believed to be most prevalent, has been met with confusion and concern from health officials. “We don’t know where to begin,” said Dr. Susan Leung, a public health expert in Austin. “It’s baffling that someone would think gunfire could be a solution to a virus. I’m no longer certain how pathogens work.”

Despite widespread skepticism, Malone’s plan has gained a surprising following on local online forums, with some even suggesting it be expanded to include flamethrowers.

“I know it sounds simple, but Texas was built on collective freedoms—and it’s great that the virus is free.”

At press time, Malone was rallying support for his “measles militia” to bring his vision to life. “Texas will stand strong, and measles will fall,” he said.

When advised by public health officials that bullets may not work, Malone revised his strategy and asked, “Have you tried thoughts and prayers?”
